IATA Prairie Wildflower Hike at Lapham Peak

  • Sunday, July 17, 2016
  • 9:00 AM
  • Lapham Peak Unit of Southern Kettle Moraine State Forest

The Waukesha/Milwaukee County Chapter of the Ice Age Trail Alliance is offering a Prairie Wildflower Hike at Lapham Peak.

We will be hiking for approximately 3-4 miles out and back through an extensive prairie restoration area. It includes burr and white oak savannahs and open meadows. Summer prairie flowers include prairie dock, rattlesnake master, cup plant, common evening and pale Indian primrose, lupine, and purple coneflowers. Our own Ice Age Trail and wildflower expert, Mike Fort, will guide and educate the hikers on some of the restoration efforts, while pointing out wildflowers and special areas of interest along the Trail.

This is a very popular and beautiful section, which is family-friendly. Dogs are welcome, but they must remain leashed and under the owner's control at all times when in Lapham Peak or on the Ice Age Trail. Please be sure to dress appropriately with comfortable hiking boots. Bring along bug spray, sunscreen, a camera, water, and snacks.

Please meet by 9 am at the Evergreen Grove Shelter just inside the entrance of Southern Kettle Moraine State Forest - Lapham Peak Unit in Delafield (driving directions). Watch for the yellow and black Ice Age Trail Event signs to guide you to the shelter's parking lot. A Wisconsin state park sticker is required in Lapham Peak.

Contact IATA and NSCM member Becky White at 414-294-9619 with any questions.
