Let's Ski Our Namesake Trail - Local Ski Trip

  • Sunday, January 21, 2018
  • 12:45 PM
  • Nordic Ski Trails, Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest; N9084 County Road H, Whitewater, WI

Nordics, let’s ski the Nordic Trail! If there’s lots of snow in the Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest on Jan. 21, we’ll cross-country ski on the Nordic Ski Club of Milwaukee’s namesake trail. Meet at 12:45 p.m. (ski at 1 p.m.) at the shelter off the parking lot to the Nordic Trail.

This scenic system of cross-country ski trails is less than an hour’s drive from Milwaukee. Designed in the 1970s by David Harrison, a president of the Nordic Ski Club, the trail system has options for beginners to expert skiers. The shelter is heated and there’s a separate building for restrooms. The nearby store at LaGrange is definitely worth a stop for homemade food and supplies.

If there’s too little snow in that area, we may go to Lapham Peak State Forest, which makes snow, or even to the Northern Unit of the Kettle Moraine, at Greenbush. Look for an update email a day or two before. But definitely call Paula Brookmire at (414) 527-0040 Saturday evening or between 9 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday to confirm the ski location (and let her know you’re coming).

By meeting up before everyone starts skiing, you may be able to find a ski partner. If there’s no snow at all, we’ll consider a hike along Menomonee River Pkwy.
