Our annual trip to Ravinia, Illinois will take place on Sunday, July 15 when we will hear the fabulously talented Audra McDonald. Among her many accomplishments are six Tony Awards, more than any other performer, staged operas with companies in Houston and Los Angeles and concerts performed around the world. She has appeared in such productions as 110 in the Shade, Carousel, Master Class and Ragtime.
Note that this year we are going on Sunday. July 15 is also the Ravinia Gala, a fundraiser that makes for prime people watching. Meet at the I-94 College Ave SOUTHWEST Park and Ride at 1:30. From there we will carpool to Highland Park, Ill. where we will catch the free shuttle to Ravinia Park. Gates open at 3:00 and the performance starts at 5:00. Tickets for the concert are purchased at Ravinia. Tickets are $10 and $8 for those over 65. Discounted tickets ($8) must be purchased in person at the main box office, not at a kiosk. You may bring food and drink, including alcohol, into Ravinia and you might consider bringing food to share with the group. You can also purchase food and beverages there. You can also bring chairs, tables, blankets and whatever makes you comfortable. Chairs and tables can also be rented. It is perfectly acceptable to bring all of these items on the shuttle bus. Please remember to contribute to your driver’s gas expense and please consider being a driver.
This is a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon. If you would like to go please call Cindy at (414)336-8695 to let her know you’re coming.
