The Scuppernong Trail System has always been one of my favorites. Years past, I would get in a morning ski prior to going to work in the afternoon. That being said, this gem is no longer groomed for XC skiing; however, it is open for snowshoeing, hiking, and non-groomed XC skiing. We intend to snowshoe. Come join me, fellow Nordics and new friends for a few hours in the scenic Scuppernong woods, located in the Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. Bring a bag lunch and plan to tailgate if the shelter is not open for us. Tailgating in the parking lot is also a fond memory of Scuppernong for me, prior to shelter being built.
I will provide several thermoses of hot water and a selection of cocoa and cider mixes to warm our bodies, in addition to some baked goods. You will find pit toilets alongside the parking lot. No snow? No problem, we will hike the trail, either with or without additional strap-on traction cleats. However, if the trail seems very icy, we will not be on it. I will check it out several days prior to the event. As always, dress accordingly. Contact Carol; email@example.com to join the fun!
The Scuppernong Trailhead is located North of the town of Eagle, Wisconsin, on County Road ZZ, just east of State Highway 67. Turn into the parking lot/trailhead on the north side of County Road ZZ. A Wisconsin State Park Sticker and Trail Pass are required for parking in the park and using the trails. Check out the Scuppernong Trail System.
