When there’s lots of snow, it's great to ski the Nordic Trail in the Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. So, if there's enough snow on Feb. 2, 2020, the Nordic Ski Club of Milwaukee will cross-country ski on our namesake trail.

Meet at 12:45 p.m. (ski at 1 p.m.) at the shelter next to the Nordic Trail. By meeting up before everyone starts skiing, you may be able to find a ski partner.

This scenic system of cross-country ski trails is less than an hour’s drive from Milwaukee. Designed in the 1970s by David Harrison, an early president of the Nordic Ski Club, the trail system has options for beginners to expert skiers. The shelter is heated, with a separate building for restrooms. A Wisconsin vehicle sticker and a skier trail pass is required and may be purchased at the entrance. The nearby store at LaGrange (HWY 12 & Cty H) is definitely worth a stop for homemade food and supplies.

If there’s too little snow in that area, we may ski at Lapham Peak State Park, which makes snow, or elsewhere. Look for an update email a day or two before. But definitely call Paula Brookmire at (414) 527-0040 Saturday evening or between 9 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday to confirm the ski location (and let her know you’re coming).

If there’s no snow, we may hike along Menomonee River Pkwy.

Directions to Nordic Trail: Take I43 south to HWY 20 (East Troy); west on HWY 20 to HWY 12, then west to County H. Go north on H to the Nordic Trail parking lot on the east (right) side of County H.
