Virmond Park is a lovely 63 acre county park along Lake Michigan with prairie and wooded paths, bluff views, and a number of picnic shelters. It will be a great place to meet at 9:30 am to start an 11 mile bike ride to Lion's Den Gorge and Nature Preserve, where there are more hiking trails to explore.
This 73 acre park has paths with scenic views of Lake Michigan, wetland boardwalks, bridges over the gorge, and a long stairway to the shoreline of Lake Michigan. Bring a lock for your bike while at the Lion’s Den. Non-bikers can opt to drive to the nature preserve. Masks are suggested for hiking since the trails are popular and could be more crowded in some areas.
We will plan to regroup for a socially distant picnic at Virmond Park around 12:30 pm. Plan to bring all your own food, snacks, and beverages. There is a restroom facility with water available at Virmond Park. In case we aren’t able to get enough picnic tables in one of the shelters, bring a lawn chair. There are plenty of shady spots we can group for eating and conversation at the park.
Please let Mary Mueller know you plan to come at 414-477-5710 or email@example.com. We may cancel if bad weather is predicted.
