Brown Deer Park: Skiier-groomed beginner trails; flat, gentle & wooded; shelter; toilets; ice skating.
Directions: 
7835 N. Green Bay Rd. , Milwaukee , or enter from Calumet Rd., east of Hwy. D.

Whitnall Park:
Machine - t racked and groomed; ¾-mile and 1.7-mile loops; beginner-intermediate trails; gentle & rolling; food and shelter; toilets Directions: 5879 S. 92nd St. , Hales Corners, Wis.


Waukesha County:

*Lapham Peak State Forest:   Two warming shelters (Evergreen at bottom parking lot and Trecker Lodge at middle lot); 4 loops, 25 km of trails; beginner, intermediate & expert trails; mix of gentle & hilly terrain, with steep climbs & descents on expert trails; 2.5 miles of lighted trails for night skiing (lighted base loop) from 6-10 p.m. Mon.-Sat. from Evergreen Shelter; ski rentals and demos at Evergreen from Bicycle Doctor/Nordic Ski Shop of Oconomowoc. Directions: W329 N846 Hwy. C,  Delafield , Wis. 53018 . Take I-94 west to Hwy. C south (Delafield). Go 1 mile south on C to the park entrance on the east (left) side of the road.

*Minooka County Park:  1-mile loop, 2-mile loop and 3-mile loop; tracked and groomed trails , beginner-intermediate level, rolling terrain, some steeper hills and mix of woods & open fields.   Outhouses. Directions: The park is southeast of Waukesha .  Take I-94 west to Hwy. 18 & go south; Hwy. A south to Racine Ave. , then west to Sunset Dr. Park entrance is on Sunset Dr., west of Racine Ave. Information : (262)-896-8006

*Nashotah County Park:
Open dawn to dusk; trails wind around two lakes on mostly gentle, undulating terrain; a few steep hills; 1-mile, 2-mile and 3-mile loops; groomed and tracked weekly for both skating and striding. No shelter. Directions: Take I-94 west to Hwy C north. Go several miles north, just past Hwy. 16. Park entrance is on Hwy. C, on your left.   Information : (262)-367-1022

Retzer Nature Center:
Skiing & snowshoe trails. Directions: Center is in Waukesha . Take I-94 west to County G.  Go south (left) over the expressway bridge. Continue south on Meadowbrook Rd. (while County G turns west). Meadowbrook becomes County TT .  Go west (right) at Highway 18. Go south (left) on Road DT to the entrance. Information : (262)-896-8007

Kettle Moraine State Forest - Northern Unit. Information: (920) 467-2099

Green Bush:
 About 1 ¼ hours north of Milwaukee, these lovely trails offer 5-mile, 3.6-mile, 2-mile, and 0.7- mile loops; intermediate-expert trails; rolling, hilly terrain; warming shelter; outhouses.
Directions: From Milwaukee 's east side , take I-43 north to Hwy 57. Hwy 57 north to Hwy PP (just before Plymouth ). West on PP to Hwy 67. Left on Hwy 67 & go 6 miles, past Greenbush sign, to Kettle Moraine Dr. North (right) on KMD; follow the Green Bush Recreational Area signs as road winds through woods. Go to second (largest) parking lot, on west (left) side of road. Warming shelter is at this large lot. 

From Milwaukee 's west side, it's about 55 miles from Capitol Dr. & I-45 to Green Bush. Take I-45 north to Kewaskum and continue north 7 miles to Hwy. 67. Follow 67 for 20 miles, through Dundee and a 90-degree turn, winding along Long Lake , to a five-way intersection with Hwys. B & G; turn east (right) to stay on Hwy 67. Go past signs for Parnell Tower , for Kettle Moraine Correctional Institute and for Old Wade House. Look for the Green Bush Recreational Area Sign and Kettle Moraine Dr. Go north (left) on KMD & follow Green Bush Recreational Area signs as road winds through woods. Go to the second, and largest, parking lot, on west (left) side of road. 

Food and beverages are available at Chissy's (Hwy. 28) just north of Waldo.  

New Fane:
7.7 miles of trails, 4 loops; gentle, rolling, & hilly terrain; mostly wooded; ski & snowshoe trails.
Directions:
Take Hwy. 45 north past West Bend to Kewaskum. At the downtown signal lights, go right/east on Hwy. 28 a few blocks to County S and turn left/north. County S goes north, then east toward New Fane; but, instead of taking a second jog north, continue east and turn right/south on Kettle Moraine Dr. Turn left/east at the next road, then left again into the Trails parking lot.

*Pike Lake State Park:  31.2 km of trails, 5 loops, rolling terrain, some steep hills; shelter Directions:  Take I-45 north to I-41; north to Hwy 60 west; go 3 1/2 miles on Hwy 60 and turn left (south) on Kettle Moraine Rd., then go 1 mile south to park entrance on your right. (Note: Do NOT take Kettle Moraine Rd. going north.)

Zillmer: 11.4 miles of trails, 4 loops; gentle, rolling & hilly terrain; wooded Directions:  Take I-45 north to Kewaskum, then go 7 miles north to Hwy. 67. Turn right (east) on 67 and go 1 mile to Cty. DD. Turn right (south) on DD and go 1/2 mile to Cty. SS. Turn left (east) on SS and travel about 1 mile to Zilmer (entrance on your left).


Kettle Moraine State Forest - Southern Unit. Information: (262) 594-6202  

* McMiller Sports Center (ski trails & gun club):
17 miles of trails, 5 ski loops, gentle and rolling terrain, warming shelter with indoor restrooms and outhouses. Sound of gunfire from target ranges; two or three “quiet” weekends per winter for skiers. Directions: Take I-43 south to Mukwonago exit; go right, into town. At County NN , turn left (west and go till it turns into Hwy. 67; go west-southwest on 67 till you see NN branching off to the right. Take NN a short way to the McMiller entrance on the north (right) side of the road. (OR, you can take I-94 west to Hwy 67 and go south on 67 through Eagle to County NN . Go west on NN to the McMiller entrance.)

*Old World Wisconsin : Not technically part of the state forest, this has easy ski trails winding through grounds filled with historic buildings. Scenic. Directions:   I-94 west to Hwy 67. Hwy 67 south (through Eagle) to the entrance on the west (right) side of the road. Food and beverages available on site.

* Nordic Trail:
30 km of trails, 8 loops, rolling to hilly terrain, groomed and tracked regularly by the DNR. Nice warming shelter; new outhouses. Directions:   I-43 south to Hwy 20 ( East Troy ). west on Hwy 20 to Hwy 12. West on Hwy 12 to County H. North on H to the parking lot on the east (right) side of the road. Trail is named in appreciation of our club's help in developing it. Food available at the General Store in LaGrange (Hwy 12 & Cty H).

Scuppernong:
17 miles of trails, 4 loops; rolling to hilly terrain; beginner to expert trails; outhouses. Directions:   I-94 west to Hwy 67. Wind south on Hwy 67 past County ZZ west to Cty. ZZ going east (left). Parking lot on the north (left) side of the road.

Farther From Milwaukee:

*Black River State Forest:   24 miles of trails, 9 loops; beginner, intermediate, expert trails; gentle, rolling, and hilly terrain with scenic views; two parking lots; no warming shelters Directions:   Wildcat parking lot is 4 miles northeast of Millston, on N. Settlement Rd.; Smrekar lot is 4 miles east of Millston on Cty. Hwy "O," then north about 1 mile on Smrekar Rd.

Green Bay Reforestation Camp: Just northwest of city of Green Bay ; 2 ½-hr drive from Milwaukee ; beginner & intermediate trails next to the zoo. Information & directions : (920) 465-1510.

Green Lake: 17 miles of trails,5 loops,  Beginner, Intermediate and Expert trails, Gentle and rolling terrain, Nice Ski lodge, warming shelter, pool and snack shop, Ski rentals and lessons by appt. Directions: 3 miles west of Green Lake on Hwy. 23.

*Hartman Creek State Park: 7 miles of trails, 8 loops; rolling to hilly; wooded. Directions: 6 miles SW of Waupaca off Hwy. 54.

Iola Winter Sports Complex:  12.5 km of trails, groomed and double-tracked for skating & striding; gentle to rolling terrain; some challenging uphill climbs on expert trails; wooded; large warming shelter. Directions: 5 miles NW of Iola on County MM.

*Peninsula State Park: 34.5 miles of trails, 9 loops; beginner, intermediate and expert trails; gentle, rolling & hilly; some challenging hills; Shelters at Lots 2 & 5. Directions:  I-43 North to Hwy. 57. North on 57 to Hwy. 42 north to just outside village of Fish Creek in Door County , Wis. Entrance is on left in Fish Creek.


*Vehicle or Trail Fees: Daily or annual state park or county vehicle pass is necessary at these locations.
Skier fees : Trail pass ($15) required at Lapham Peak , McMiller, Nordic & Scuppernong; fee at Old World
