Start the New Year with your friends or make new ones as you ski or snowshoe your way through the Keweenaw Peninsula with the Nordics.

We will leave Thursday morning January 2 at 8 am and stop to ski in Wisconsin at Brown County Reforestation Camp near Green Bay (30 km of trails, chalet, and 3 km of snowshoe trails) or WinMan Trails near Winchester, WI (23 km of trails, chalet, and over 8 km of snowshoe trails). We will ski at several different locations in the Keweenaw Peninsula, which is the one place that almost always has snow even in poor snow years!:

  • Swedetown has 32.5 km of groomed trails, 5.3 km of snowshoe trails, and a chalet with food for sale.
  • Michigan Tech University has 34 km of superbly groomed, wide trails with a chalet and small warming hut. No US National Championships at MTU this year.
  • Maasto Hiihto has 24 km of scenic, striding-only trails and chalet with homemade food.
These ski areas have both skating (except for Maasto Hiihto) and striding trails for all skiing abilities as well as snowshoe trails.

Cost Includes:  Motor coach transportation, trail fees, and three nights' accommodations at the Quality Inn & Suites in downtown Houghton with swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna, free continental breakfast, and microwave and refrigerator in each room. Restaurants are within walking distance.  An optional group dinner will be offered.

Contact trip leader Don Hynek at 608-575-6115 or dhynek@climbingcentral.com for more information.

All trip participants must be NSCM members.
