Let’s hope for snow at our January picnic lunch. But lack of snow has never stopped the Nordic Ski Club of Milwaukee from having fun. If we can’t ski or snowshoe, we’ll hike. And our noon lunch will be indoors (unlike the Covid years when we dined outdoors in January). Club members can enjoy sub sandwiches and desserts starting about noon at Trecker Lodge at Lapham Peak State Forest. You can ski or hike beforehand.

Times: Hike or ski starts at 10:00 am from Lapham Lodge off Evergreen Grove parking lot.

Lunch is noon to 2:00 pm at Trecker Lodge off Homestead Hollow parking lot

Location: Kettle Moraine State Forest-Lapham Peak Unit, W329N846 County C, Delafield, WI 53018.

Cost: Free for Nordic Ski Club members

Must register for food: Reserve your spot for the picnic lunch by registering here by Tuesday, January 6. The club will supply sub sandwiches and water for the indoor picnic. Contact Rita Keber at rkeber@milwpc.com if you have any questions.

Entering Park: Arrive early as Lapham can close if there are too many cars on a weekend. If you come only for the picnic, tell them you’re going to Trecker Lodge for the Nordic Ski Club event.

Directions: On highway I-94 between Madison and Milwaukee, take the Delafield exit; drive south on County Road C for 0.9 miles to the park entrance (east side of the road).

Entrance fee: Buy admission stickers online, or by calling 888-305-0398, or at Lapham Peak. Resident 12-month vehicle pass: $28; daily pass: $13.

Resident senior (65+) vehicle pass: $13; daily pass $3.

Statewide annual trail pass: $25; daily: $5.
